AI gives experienced software engineers new tools to accelerate development and delivery.
By combining AI-assisted development with engineering expertise, workflow improvements, and purpose-built tooling, Mindex helped a reporting team achieve a 38% increase in development throughput, a 37.5% reduction in cycle time, and a 128.8% increase in pull request throughput.
A special shoutout to Mindex’s “Rage Against the Code” team, our Statement of Work team behind the scenes, whose creativity, collaboration, and commitment helped make these results possible.
As the reporting team continued advancing its technology and evaluating new opportunities for AI-enabled development, it was looking for ways to increase productivity, accelerate delivery, and accomplish more with available resources.
For the Mindex team supporting the reporting organization, the opportunity was not simply to experiment with AI. The goal was to incorporate AI into everyday development workflows in ways that could produce measurable improvements while maintaining the quality and discipline expected of enterprise software development.
The team began integrating AI into development activities while also improving supporting processes and leveraging internal tooling designed to make AI-assisted development more effective.
Mindex incorporated AI into its software development workflow, using AI-assisted development alongside experienced engineering practices and team-built tooling.
Together, these practices allowed the team to apply AI where it could provide the greatest leverage while keeping engineering judgment and quality controls at the center of the process.
The Results
The team saw measurable improvements across several development metrics.
Code development increased from 9.69 to 13.36 story points per week, representing a 38% increase in development throughput.
Pull request throughput increased by 128.8%. This increase was influenced in part by end-of-project cleanup activities and process improvements that improved story readiness before development began.
Average cycle time improved from 8 days to 5 days, a 37.5% reduction.
Together, these improvements demonstrate how AI-assisted development can help engineering teams increase delivery velocity when combined with effective processes, experienced engineers, and purpose-built tooling.
Mindex’s AI Lab helps organizations identify opportunities to apply AI within their software development workflows. Bring your software, your team, and a development challenge, and Mindex engineers will work with you to build and demonstrate an AI-assisted solution.
