For a payroll technology company, Mindex combined its proprietary AI tooling and accelerators with experienced engineers to support an application modernization initiative, explore a long-standing technical challenge, and contribute to a 27.3% reduction in development cycle time.

A payroll technology company was modernizing an existing application supporting its analytics and reporting capabilities.
One part of the effort involved moving an existing application component from an established web framework to a newer framework while preparing for integration with a third-party workforce analytics platform.
The team was also facing a separate technical design challenge that had remained unresolved for approximately a year.
The opportunity was to help engineers move this work forward more efficiently while giving them new ways to analyze existing technology and explore potential solutions.
Mindex incorporated AI into the team's existing software development workflow.
Rather than using AI simply to generate code, engineers used it to analyze existing technology, explore technical approaches, and accelerate development work.
For one modernization effort, the team used AI to analyze an existing component of the application and help determine how it could be moved to a newer development framework. The work supported integration with a third-party workforce analytics platform. Based on the team's assessment, AI-assisted development was expected to reduce the effort required for this portion of the work from approximately three development sprints to one.
Mindex engineers also applied AI to the long-standing technical design challenge. By using AI to analyze the problem and explore potential approaches, the team developed a proposed solution within days.
Throughout the work, experienced engineers remained responsible for evaluating AI-generated recommendations, applying technical judgment, and making implementation decisions.
The Results
AI-assisted engineering helped the team improve development performance while making progress on complex modernization work.
Average cycle time improved from 11 days in February to 8 days in June, a 27.3% reduction.
For a key application modernization task supporting a third-party integration, the team estimated that AI-assisted development could reduce the required effort from approximately three development sprints to one.
That represents an estimated 67% reduction in development effort for that specific task, based on the team's three-sprint-to-one-sprint estimate.
AI-assisted analysis helped engineers develop a proposed approach to a technical design challenge that remained unresolved for approximately a year.
