Gratitude is one of our core values at Mindex, and we are grateful for the opportunities we’ve had to give back to our community. Each year, Mindex asks employees to nominate a charity to support as we strive to engage everyone to work together towards a common goal. Since starting this initiative, we’ve been able to support organizations that our employees are passionate about including, Sustain Inspire Survive (SIS), The Parkinson’s Foundation, and The Testicular Cancer Society.
This year, we had the opportunity to support two incredible organizations dedicated to making a difference in the fight against cancer – 13thirty Cancer Connect, a local Rochester organization for adolescents and young adults battling cancer, and Ewing Sarcoma Cancer Research, a rare disease that a longstanding Mindex employee lost his battle to late last year.
As a solely employee-driven initiative, we also work together to come up with ideas for how we will support each cause. In the spring, we asked everyone to join us in celebrating our 27th anniversary to support 13thirty Cancer Connect during a 10-day period where all donations received would be matched dollar for dollar by Mindex.
And this summer, we held a happy hour social event with basket raffles, games, live music, food, drinks, and more to bring Ewing Sarcoma Cancer Research to the spotlight and remember Al Ebertz our friend and colleague. We had the honor of hearing from Dr. Anderson, a leading researcher for Ewing Sarcoma, and Lauren Spiker, Director of 13thirty at the event and were surrounded by over 300 of our employees, families, and friends to make an incredible evening even more special.
We were blown away by the support we received from these initiatives, not only from our employees, but also from the community, and together we raised nearly $15K for each charity. With the Mindex match, both organizations will receive $30K each for a total of $60K contributed.
We can’t thank everyone enough that contributed and supported us in these efforts to help make a difference – and a special thank you to the many local Rochester vendors that made our social event such a success.
This was a record-breaking year for Mindex’s annual charity program, and we are incredibly grateful to be able to continuously raise the bar in our community initiatives.
About the Organizations
13thirty Cancer Connect is a local Rochester organization that is internationally known in the field of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer and inspired by a teen named Melissa who lost her battle to a rare bone marrow cancer in 2000. Their programs are dedicated to helping teens, young adults, and their families that are impacted by cancer live their very best lives, today.
Ewing Sarcoma is a rare cancer that affects the bones and soft tissue and primarily affects teens and young adults. Dr. Peter Anderson of the Cleveland Clinic has focused his research efforts on innovative clinical trials and better cancer care with a particular interest in Ewing Family Tumors (EWS, DRSCT, clear cell sarcoma). Dr. Anderson worked closely with Al during his battle.
